After learning about the ideas of transcendentalism I have decided that there are aspects of it that I want to apply to my own life. The ideas of individuality and being one with nature are two ideas that I strongly agree with. Personally, I usually like when things are done individually simply because I know that I can always rely on myself. Also, I never want to lose myself within a crowd and forget who I am. I don't want to be a clone of someone else, I simply want to be the person that I have always been and follow my own path with my own dreams and ambitions. As far as being one with nature I really like that idea. I enjoy being outside and being in the fresh air; however, nature does pass me by because even while I am outside, sometimes I am not observing everything that is around me because I am assuming that it the same thing I have already seen before. I now realize that nature is always surprising and never dull. There will always be something within nature that will make the time spent outside worth it. Thoreau and Emerson both shared the same vision of people one day understanding that within nature lies truth and that trying to be like someone else is never the way to go. It's interesting because it is almost as if people already realize these things, but they never follow through with them. When a person wants peace and time to think they will either go outside for fresh air or go somewhere by themselves in order to attain that peace. The ideas are easily understood, but rarely applied because after spending so much of their lives conforming, they do not know how to apply the ideas of transcendentalism to their lives. Transcendentalism has opened my eyes to the world around me. I am more aware and observant when it comes to my surroundings as well as solidifying who I am and making my identity known.
